A Petroleum Research for the Yamaha YBR 125

A Petroleum Research

Subject: Petroleum

 (Yamaha 125G –2009 Printed Version-Owner’s Manual)
Recommended: REGULAR UNLEADED GASOLINE ONLY

NOTICE: use only unleaded gasoline. The use of leaded gasoline will cause severe damage to internal engine parts, such as the valves and piston rings, as well as to the exhaust systems.

Note: None

(Yamaha 125ED -2006 Printed Version-Owner’s Manual)
Recommended: REGULAR UNLEADED GASOLINE ONLY

CAUTION: use only unleaded gasoline. The use of leaded gasoline will cause severe damage to internal engine parts, such as the valves and piston rings, as well as to the exhaust systems.

Note: Your Yamaha engine has been designed to use REGULAR UNLEADED gasoline with a Research octane number of 91 or Higher. (If knocking or pinging occurs, use a gasoline of a different brand or PREMIUM UNLEADED fuel. Use of UNLEADED fuel will extend spark plug life and reduce maintenance costs.

– YBR125ED and YBR125G, both motorcycle models have the same YBR engine.
Yamaha YBR125G RESEARCH OCTANE NUMBER of 91 or Higher

Petron-Regular Unleaded Gasoline Research Octane Number of 81 only
The Yamaha YBR’s Engine will run smoothly on its recommended RON 91 or Higher
Yamaha Recommends REGULAR unleaded gasoline. But their recommended gasoline does not have the required RON for a Yamaha Engine (does Yamaha know about this?)
Only Premium gasolines offer the recommended RON. L

Gasoline RON Rating (Based on PETRON)
-Petron BLAZE 100- RON 100 (Premium Plus Gasoline) - Unleaded
-Petron XCS – RON 95+ (Premium Plus Grade Ethanol-blended Gasoline - Unleaded
-Petron Xtra Unleaded – RON 93+ (Premium Grade Ethanol-blended Gasoline) – Unleaded
-Petron Regular Unleaded – RON 81 (Regular Grade Gasoline) – Unleaded
(Gasoline engines with compression ratio below 7.0 such as those found in motorcycles, pumpboats and lawnmowers.
Yamaha YBR Engine Compression Ratio:  10.0:1
Yamaha FZ16 Engine Compression Ratio: 9.5:1
Yamaha Mio Soul Engine Compression Ratio: 8.8:1
Higher Engine compression ratios will however make gasoline engines subject to engine knocking if lower octane-rated fuel is used, also known as detonation.

What fuel is compatible for our motorcycles? L

Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki: Not Compatible with E10 Blended Gasoline (Bio-ethanol) 10%

Protect Your Engines From Alcohol Fuel Damage!

Ethanol is an Alcohol Fuel.
Ethanol is an alcohol renewable fuel, made from corn or grains, which is used to oxygenate gasoline fuel at the pumps.
Ethanol is hygroscopic (will absorb water), and is an excellent solvent (dissolves materials).
Due to ethanol's affinity for water, phase separation and water contamination occurs very quickly.

Ethanol Fuel - What's the danger?
Simply put, ethanol is an excellent SOLVENT (dissolves plastic, rubber, fiberglass and more), and unlike MTBE ethanol will ABSORB WATER, which can cause serious problems to some engines.
The presence of ethanol in fuel is rapidly rising.

At this time, most gasoline stations have already switched over to E10 ethanol-blended fuels, replacing MTBE, for oxygenating fuel.
Based on the laws passed in 2006 (Clean Air Act) and other EPA and U.S. government laws, ethanol blend fuels now are present in our fuel supply.

You may not realize, that you are already buying fuel that contains ethanol...

The gas pumps in several states still are not required to disclose that the gasoline contains ethanol alcohol.

Non-Ethanol Fuel:

Petron Blaze 100

PETRON BLAZE 100 is the first and only pure 100 octane premium gasoline in the Philippines. It is formulated and developed to unleash the full potential of modern and high performance vehicles. Its high octane combined with high performance fully synthetic detergent additive and organic combustion enhancer provides optimum engine performance for smooth and exhilarating driving experience. Petron Blaze 100 is the advanced unleaded gasoline that provides the following performance benefits:

    Enhanced power and acceleration
    Excellent engine cleaning action
Better fuel economy and reduced emissions

Application:
    All gasoline cars
Luxury cars, sports cars, big bike
    Cars fitted with catalytic converters
Cars not compatible with ethanol-blended gasoline J

Type / Quality Level
Premium plus Gasoline (RON 100)
(Blaze meets Motorcycle Octane Requirement of 91 or Higher without Ethanol (E10).

PETRON REGULAR UNLEADED is a motor fuel with controlled volatility for maximum economy, easy starting and good acceleration. It is suitable for low compression gasoline engines.
Applciation:

Gasoline engines with compression ratio below 7.0 such as those found in motorcycles, pumpboats and lawnmowers.

Type / Quality Level
 Regular Grade Gasoline (RON 81)
(Regular Gasoline, Octane 81. Low Octane, for the said RON 91 or Higher requirement for motorcycles - Gabby)

Caltex Silver 93 with techron (Regular) ETHANOL BLENDED L

A.      Hi-Octane Gas wears out: Carburettor Gaskets (Acceptable) (L)
B.       Low-Octane Gas Causes: Engine Knocking/Detonation, Damage: Piston Rings (LL)
C.       Ethanol Blended Gas Damages: The Engine, Corrodes Gas Tank, Melts O-Rings and Gaskets. (LLL)

Gabby’s Thoughts:  after a detailed 3 day-mind hammering research on different version of Owner’s Manuals (YBR125) and well-known petroleum products effects on motorcycle engines.

-Motorcycle Owner’s Manual for YBR125 had been revised in 3 different versions.
Printed in China 2006 and Printed in China 2008 are found to be more detailed and complete.

Than the later Printed in the Philippines 2009 version which lacks the following info:
-Engine Octane Requirement,
-Approving the use of PREMIUM Unleaded gasoline, if engine knock is experienced.
-Servicing Manual (Yamaha’s Mechanical Secrets).
-and other useful information.

(Yamaha YBR Custom (Europe), YBR125ED, YBR125S, YBR125G2009 and YBR125G 2011 had the same engine type.

Petron launches Blaze 100

Petron Corp. breaks another boundary in fuel technology with the recent introduction of the new Petron Blaze 100, the only premium gasoline in the Philippine market with a Research Octane Number (RON) of 100. The new fuel product was formulated to ensure engine power and to unleash the full potential of high-performance vehicles.

The first-of-its kind premium gasoline guarantees the following performances benefits: Excellent engine responsiveness and optimum power and acceleration; high quality engine cleaning action with the use of fully synthetic detergent additives; and better fuel economy and reduced emissions with its unique organic combustion enhancer.

With a 100 RON, Petron Blaze 100 has exceptional resistance to “engine knocking” which results in uneven fuel burn and greater fuel consumption. And since it does not contain ethanol, it can be safely loaded in older vehicles that are not equipped to take in ethanol-blended gasoline.

The new Petron product also exceeds stringent European emission standards (Euro 2) making it environment-friendly.
“As the market leader in the Philippine oil sector, we introduce products that are relevant to Filipino motorists,” Petron Chairman and CEO Ramon S. Ang said.
